Let me tell you something nobody in tech wants to admit.

You do not need to understand AI to use it. You just need to start using it.

I know that sounds too simple. But think about how you learned to use WhatsApp. Nobody gave you a manual. Nobody sent you to a class. You just started sending messages and figured it out as you went. AI is the same. Except it is already on your phone right now waiting for you.

Open your browser. Go to chatgpt.com or claude.ai or genini.google.com. They are free. They work on your phone. No downloads, no payment, no technical knowledge required. Just type something and see what happens.

No data? Not a problem. Glo sells 50MB for ₦50 — that is enough for a full hour of back and forth with AI. ChatGPT and Claude are mostly text so they barely touch your data. AI is mostly text-based so they use very little data — roughly 1MB per conversation session. So even 50MB goes a long way for AI use specifically. You do not need a big bundle to get started. You just need to start.

Ask for a recipe. Type something like this: “I want to cook amala and abula this evening. Give me a simple step by step recipe including the ingredients I need to buy.” See what comes back. Read it. Ask a follow up question if you want. Notice how it talks to you like a person.

Then try something practical. Ask it: “What is the best way to travel from Lagos Mainland to the Island before 8am on a Monday morning? What should I avoid and what are my options?” Watch how it thinks through your actual situation and gives you a real answer.

Did that feel useful? Good. That feeling is the point.

You just used AI. Not to do something complicated. To make your day a little easier. That is exactly where it starts for everyone including me.

The people gaining advantage right now are not geniuses. They are just the people who started before everyone else. Some of them started last week. Some started this morning.
