Something happened quietly over the last few years. The rules changed. Not just in Silicon Valley or London or New York. Right here. In Lagos. In Abuja. In Port Harcourt. In every office, every market, every industry that is trying to figure out what comes next.

Artificial intelligence is no longer a future thing. It is a now thing. And the people who understand that are already pulling ahead.

A senior executive in Nigeria recently said something that stopped me in my tracks. He said he can no longer hire anyone who cannot show him how they use AI in their daily work. Not fancy AI. Not complicated AI. Just practical, everyday AI that makes them better at their job. He said this is now the first conversation he has in every interview.

Think about that for a second.

Someone who has already passed two or three rounds of interviews. Someone qualified on paper. Someone who worked hard to get to that room. And the question that decides everything is now about AI.This is not a threat. It is an opportunity. A massive one.

Here is a real example of what I mean. Every day in Nigeria thousands of people need to write a business proposal, follow up with a client, explain a service, or apply for a job. Most people spend hours on this. Some pay someone else to do it. Some just do not do it at all because it feels too hard.

With AI you can do any of these things in minutes. You describe your situation, you explain what you need, and AI gives you a headstart. A solid first draft. A structure you can work with. Something on the page instead of nothing.

But here is something important. Never just take what AI gives you and send it out. Always read it. Check it. Make sure it is accurate. Make sure it sounds like you. AI can get things wrong and it does not know your situation as well as you do. You are always the human in the loop. AI gives you the headstart. You bring it home.

The world changed. The good news is the door is still open.

And you do not need a computer science degree to walk through it. You just need to start.
